Cutting + sticking + sewing + baking. My creative life.

The Sisterhood of the Travelling Quilt

I just got back from a trip half way round the world, I went to Australia to visit my dear friend and namesake.  I wanted to take her a quilt, something which showed off the best of Britain.  I made a red, white and blue quilt using the Moda Bakeshop pattern Bradley Street.  I used a lot of fabric from my stash and only bought a couple of fat quarters. I had some material with bunting, cottage garden flowers, maps, beach huts, teapots and tea cups and picnics on.

I thought long and hard about how the quilt should be quilted, I wanted to use a British design.  I did consider crowns or roses and then I found a design of bacon and eggs.  Ideal!

All wrapped up and ready to go, this quilt travelled 10,481 miles (with a stopover in Singapore).

Here is the quilt with it’s new owner.

Thank you for a brilliant trip and your warm hospitality Melanie!

Love Melanie Xx
